The GIS Analyst works as an embedded resource providing GIS support to a specific business unit. The GIS Analyst is responsible for communicating GIS project ideas and concerns from the business unit to the GIS Team Lead, following through with the progress and communicating it back to the team. § Safety - Conducts all activities in a safe and effective manner and raises safety and environmental issues immediately and in line with corporate policy§ Leadership - Undertakes the role in line with corporate policy and demonstrates behaviours in line with Nexen’s values at all times. Readily accepts accountability§ Financial - Carries out duties in a way that maximises value and minimises waste and risk.§ Technical/Functional – The GIS Analyst role requires an understanding of business processes related to New Ventures work and a technical background specialised in GIS to support those processes. Specific responsibilities include:· Act as the embedded GIS resource for a specific business unit, providing GIS support for regular business and in conjunction with licence round submissions· Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness for the business unit· Develop GIS workflows for GIS Services and GIS users in the business. Ensure approval for processes and store these with proper documentation in UKMS.· Understand the developing requirements of the business unit and be responsive to change in support requirements, service delivery, and program of improvements.· Add new data to the GIS system in line with corporate Spatial Data Management standards· Maintain data integrity by ensuring spatial data is current· Cataloguing spatial data and maps; ensuring appropriate metadata is captured· Execute geodetic checks and transforming spatial datasets between coordinate systems and projections· Assist and collaborate with GIS Team Lead on GIS projects· Handling business GIS requests for work from start to finish, engaging other resources as required§ Collaboration - Collaborates with others in the team and looks for opportunities to leverage their network and work with others to develop safe, practical and effective solutions§ Continuous Improvement & Innovation - Continuously develops ways of working by seeking feedback from colleagues and key stakeholders. Complies with Nexen project management disciplines, effectively utilises knowledge databases and actively participates in project reviews§ Capability Development - Looks for opportunities to develop technical and personal skills both by formal learning interventions and work experience. Coaches team colleagues where appropriate and demonstrates a personal commitment to lifelong learning§ People Processes - Engages with people processes in a positive and timely manner. Demonstrates a commitment to the spirit of such processes.§ Performs other duties, completes additional tasks and supports ad hoc projects as required QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING:LIST THE QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED TO DO THE JOB. · Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Geology, Geomatics, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent· ESRI GIS certification preferred KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:LIST THE ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS//EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OF THE JOB HOLDER. · Strong analytical and problem solving skills· Ability to demonstrate excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills· Experience with ESRI GIS products is required (ArcGIS, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Server)· Considerable related E&P GIS experience, preferably at the GIS Analyst level, and some Geoscience/Engineering Support experience required· Training or experience with E&P industry data sources· Strong working knowledge of map projections, datums, and transformations; must be able to verify data accuracy· Clearly translate GIS technical discussions to business application· High standards of excellence and attention to detail KEY CORE COMPETENCIES: SELECT ALL THAT APPLY TO THIS JOB ROLE AND DETAIL ANY PARTICULAR/UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE JOB.
