BASIC PURPOSE
The Senior Packaging Engineer will be 
responsible for packaging design, development, 
prototyping, protocol development, 
package/product compatibility, package 
performance testing, component validation, 
specification development and project plan 
development and management including budget 
management for new package projects. Demonstrate 
good laboratory practices, safety awareness, 
awareness of and compliance with regulatory 
guidelines, (CGMP, GLP, and FDA Monographs), 
comprehension of USP/NF, INCI, and other 
applicable references.  Occasional overnight 
travel is required (0-5 trips/year).  
Responsible for compliance with applicable 
Corporate and Divisional policies and procedures

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Design / develop primary packaging components. 
Serve as the primary contact on cross functional 
teams for primary package design for new product 
development. This will include working with 
Marketing, R&D, Technical Services, Purchasing 
and suppliers to determine optimal design and 
material selection.

Plans/develops secondary and tertiary packaging 
and shipping/distribution containers for 
products in response to customer quality and 
Marketing requirements, working with dimensional 
tolerance, copy control, material 
compatibility/specifications and standards. 

Develop awareness and expertise in new 
technologies and processes in packaging. Assess 
feasibility and value of technologies for 
Mentholatum products. 

Comply with documentation requirements for the 
development of new and revised container-closure 
systems (e.g., design history files, test 
protocols and reports, specifications, drawings)

Develop and oversee the implementation of test 
protocols for package integrity, compatibility 
and functional testing of container closures.

Assist as a technical expert in the resolution 
of problem investigations concerning packaging 
components.
