D E S C R I P T I O N:

The individual in this position will act as the 
hands on manager and department head for the 
engineering and machine shop groups. The primary 
responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
define, design, and development of new product 
solutions for new and existing business 
accounts. As a key member of the management 
team, the incumbent will be engaged in product 
development activities,  maintain a strong  
relationship with the major manufacturing groups 
and the sales and marketing departments to 
achieve common directives. The individual will 
be responsible for schedule and management of 
product being produced by the machine shop to 
insure forecasts are being met. Incumbent 
performs a variety of moderate to complex 
activities related to the design and evaluation 
of high precision opto-mechanical new product 
solutions, tooling, fixtures and other 
reflective energy systems.  This position has 
the scope, dimension and complexity of tasks 
ranging from detailing mechanical drawings and 
hands-on mechanical assemblies to complex 
engineered designs requiring the use of creative 
initiative and sound business judgment and 
strong requirement for management  interface 
with customer, vendor and company  resources. 

 
E S S E N T IA L  F U N C T I O N S:

Develop initial engineering designs to serve as 
the basis for new product concept proposals and 
assist in the preparation of such proposals. 
Develop complete engineering designs.
Determine the final design approach for a 
product and the schedule for product development 
consistent with product launch plans developed 
by New Business Development group. 
Coordinate the manufacturing or building of 
prototype product designs.  
Provide hands-on technical support to 
manufacturing personnel on new and existing 
products. 
Frequent inter-organizational and outside 
customer contacts to assist Sales and Marketing. 
Responsible for moderate to complex engineering 
and designing activities involved in the 
development of precision mechanical and opto-
mechanical tooling, fixtures and components for 
reflective energy solutions; from proof of 
concept to fabrication.    
Makes engineering designs, computations, writes 
detailed product specifications and makes 
modifications in designs or specifications.  
Performs product development activities 
including creating new or modified designs for 
new or existing products.  
Verifies complete work, detailing, checking 
dimensions, materials to be used and 
quantities.  
Involved in coordinating with other internal 
departments affected or influenced by design 
development and modifications.  
 
 
K N O W L E D G E,  S K I L L S,  A B I L I T I E S :

Solid and verifiably successful track 
record/experience in mechanical engineering 
necessary. 
Requires a minimum of ten years (relevant) 
management experience in mechanical engineering 
and design experience using 3D CAD with BSME 
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or advanced 
college degree.  
You must have extensive knowledge of SolidWorks 
(including tolerance analysis).
Knowledge of precision machining (CNC) and 
practical manufacturing tolerance for various 
fabrication methods recommended. (Hands on 
experience a plus)
5+ years of research/development experience, and 
excellent mechanical design skills.
Should have good, demonstrated experience, in 
Design for Manufacturing and product preparation 
for Manufacturing. 
Computer literate using MS Word, Excel and 
Outlook and web based search skills.
Excellent organization and communication skills.
